Biography
Discoteka Flaming Star was founded it 1998 by Cristina Gómez Barrio and Wolfgang Mayer. Throughout its existence, the group has incorporated various other individuals into its performance-based artistic praxis. In its stagings as well as its objects Discoteka Flaming Star are actualizing an idea of Camp, which they reintroduce into different contexts. The have worked at u.a. the Whitney Independent Study Program (2006/07) and have received grants from the DAAD and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. In the last years, their works have been shown at u.a. CAAC Seville (2011), Villa Romana (Florence) (2011), Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin) (2010), Temporäre Kunsthalle (Berlin) (2010), Performa (New York) (2009), MACBA (Barcelona) (2009) and Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (2010). Discoteka Flaming Star hold a professorship at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart.
