Marzena Nowak

20 Mar - 25 Apr 2009

Untitled, 2007
Galerija Gregor Podnar is pleased to announce Marzena Nowak’s first solo exhibition in Berlin.

The work of Marzena Nowak is created from memory and imagination, residing somewhere in the tension between autobiographical reference points and poetically immersed dream worlds. Marzena Nowak’s sensitivity to everyday occurrences and the relation to her own physicality often represent the thematic departure points for her artistic practice.

At the Galerija Gregor Podnar, Nowak will show Untitled (Stars), two large format, star-like blueprint drawings on canvas, along with the video work Untitled (Trilogy) with three scenes intimate and mysterious details of a moving body, down from draping hair, caressing fingers and a slightly opened lips. Finally, Novak will present Untitled (Grating), an architectural intervention in the form of a window grating conceived especially for the gallery space. Amongst these four works created specifically for the exhibition, there will also be smaller works on view.

Born in 1977 in Piaseczno, the Warsaw-based artist has been showing internationally since 2003, participating in exhibitions including: Absolute Generations as part of the 50th Venice Biennial (2003), Interrupted Connections in Zacheta, National Gallery of Art in Warsaw (2006), at the Dvir Gallery in Tel Aviv in 2007, a solo exhibition in 2008 at the Galerie Mezzanin in Vienna, and this year at the Konrad Fischer Galerie in Düsseldorf.

We would like to thank Gabriela Gantenbein and Karin Handlbauer (Galerie Mezzanin, Vienna) for their kind support.
