A SELECTION FROM THE COLLECTION OF THE BARJEEL FOUNDATION
28 February - 2 July 2017

The Barjeel Art Foundation (BAF) is an independent initiative in Sharjah (United Arab Emirates) that has an exceptionally extensive collection of modern and contemporary art from the Arab region. The collection was put together, among other reasons, to aid the intellectual development of knowledge about art from the Arabic sphere of influence. The BAF commissioned Philippe Van Cauteren to make a selection from its sizeable collection. More than a hundred works from the Barjeel collection that represent a part of art history that is still too little known will be exhibited at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. It includes work by Marwan, Ahmed Morsi, Etel Adnan, Rachid Koraichi, Chafic Abboud, Adel Abdessemed, Fadi Al Hamwi, Asim Abu Shakra, Shakir Hassan Al-Said and Achraf Touloub.
