Opening: Tuesday, 4 Sept., 2007, 6 -8 pm
Exhibition: 5 Sept. - 18 Sept., 2007

After the exhibition “Here, the Scene is Better” in 2006, the artist couple, Ji Wenyu and Zhu Weibing will present “People holding flowers” at ShangHART Gallery, Shanghai, from September 4th to 18th, 2007.
Ji Wenyu was born in 1959 in Shanghai. He graduated from the Shanghai Arts & Crafts College in 1980, then finish his studies in decoration and fine arts at the Shanghai Light Industry College in 1988. In the mid 1990’s, his colorful and humorous Pop artworks started to draw people’s attention. His paintings were mostly copies or imitations of manufactured goods and surrounding life elements. The last few years, he gradually transformed his focus from painting into three-dimensional works, exploring new perspectives. Soft sculptures such as ‘Here, The Scene Is Better’ and ‘People Holding Flowers’ reveal the tacit understanding within the couple. They not only continued Ji Wenyu’s clever and humorous style, but also bear Zhu Weibing’s sensitive expression and cloth crafts’ talent. Main exhibitions attended by Ji Wenyu and Zhu Weibing: ‘Here, The Scene Is Better’ in ShangHART Gallery Shanghai 2006, and ‘Hyper Design – Shanghai Biennial’ 2006, etc.
This time, the exhibition will present ‘People Holding Flowers’, a huge square formed by 400 identical men of 30 cm high each. They are all wearing suits, holding pink flowers, and seem powerfully. These duplicated men and flowers, naive and very symbolic, are less showy than his old works, but are more plain and filled with social criticism.
