CYPRIEN GAILLARD
Prix Marcel Duchamp 2010
21 September, 2011 - 9 January, 2012

The Centre Pompidou is exhibiting a submission by Cyprien Gaillard, winner of the Marcel Duchamp prize 2010, in partnership with the Association pour la diffusion internationale de l'art français [Association for the international Distribution of French Art, the ADIAF]. The artist scales the world, tracking down ruins, both ancient and modern, architectural wonders, landscapes on the brink of disappearing, transforming or being destroyed, invaded by nature, or even restored sites and abandoned objects. Cyprien Gaillard displays these within installations and performances, and seems to advance with this quote from Diderot in mind: "One must ruin a palace in order to make it an object of interest".
