Taro Izumi's works are created playfully and are characterized by spontaneity and originality. With its space-filling and performative installations, reminiscent of games, he introduces the concept of homo ludens into his artistic practice. Closely associated with the coincidence he involves a certrain degree of risks factor into his works: the artist as an actor adheres to predefined rules, but the outcome of the game stays always uncertain. He often invites the viewer to become the players in his artistic cosmos to break viewing habits and to acquire the new reality. With his installation Tsubo (The Metro) on the Yokohama Triennale 2011, he gained international attention.
