ACTIONPAINTINGBABYSPLASH!
31 January – 22 February 2015

Curators: Greta Burman, Gisela Fleischer and Joa Ljungberg.
Art Educator: Anna Rowland

ACTIONPAINTINGBABYSPLASH! is an experimental mixture of exhibition and creative workshop where paint is going to be dripped, exploded, thrown, smeared, and rolled out.
All visitors to the exhibition—from babies to adults—will have a chance to cut loose with color, using paint, a variety of tools, and their own bodies right on the walls and floors of the museum. At the same time, different kinds of action-inspired art and documentations of performances will be shown by artists like Anastasia Ax, Patty Chang, Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen, Torbjörn Johansson with Anna Koch and Christine Abdelnour, Joanna Lombard, Niki de Saint Phalle, and Shozo Shimamoto.
Visitors are welcome to participate in all the action that goes on throughout the exhibition period, or just look at the art and the documentaries in galleries that are marked with the traces of creative workshops. Using paints that are edible—made from turmeric, beets, and chlorophyll—our youngest visitors and their adult company will be able to make a gigantic floor painting. Those who are a little older can try action painting their faces, blowing up sacks of paint with darts, or using chance and gravity to create an enormous drip painting. In one activity—the one the show is named after, Actionpaintingbabysplash!— visitors will use their own bodies and a cascade of paint to transform the white walls of the gallery space into a gigantic painting. We’ll do all these activities together, adults and kids, and of course you can join in even if you’re not bringing any children with you. So dig out some old work clothes and get ready to get messy.

Welcome!
