Two new works, specifically created for this space by Pep Duran (Vilanova i la Geltrú, 1955), bring the former chapel to life in a very special way. The wall that separates the main space from the side panel is coated in clay, in the manner of a second skin. An archeological trace that invites us to come up close, touch its surface and explore how far it goes, where it leads us. We discover that the wall talks to us. Displayed alongside it are images that show similar constructions, mise-en-scènes from the future, formal revolutions of a Modernity that belongs to another time. It is a place that invites us to contemplate the historicity of the consciousness that we have inherited from a seemingly distant past, which nevertheless surfaces over and over in the culture of our present.

The other, sculptural, element is a wall that takes up the space where the altar used to be. A wall, a large ceramic element in which a variety of volumes create forms: perhaps a secret alphabet that hides the key to all of these things that we are witnessing. The inner workings of this piece seem to be trying to tell us an inner story that accounts for the past, for how perception and self-perception help us to position ourselves in relation to the contemporary world. And for our way of separating the present from the past, the work from its trace, language from forms and words.

A text by the writer Jordi Puntí will accompany the exhibition.
