I DON'T HAVE TO GO TO THE SEA
13 February – 24 April 2016

Water is a highly versatile natural element, which mainly illustrates the alpine world. Here water and mountains form a symbiosis and manifest an eternal cycle. Basically amorphous, the water takes on different aggregate states. Through melting ice, snow or rain innumerable forms of water landscapes emerge that continue to change the scenery through the creative and destructive power of water over years and centuries. The exhibition becomes a journey of exploration of the various facets of water worlds, from the mountaintop down to the valley: melting glaciers, raging waterfalls, bubbling streams, quiet rivers and glittering lakes. The water in its various forms becomes the starting point of observation and material of art. The exhibition displays works from the collection of the Kunstmuseum and juxtaposes these with contemporary artists. It combines painting, photography, video, installation and printmaking from the 19th century until today.
