Gili Tal
28 Aug - 15 Nov 2026
Gili Tal’s (b. 1983) solo exhibition at Kunsthalle Basel marks the most comprehensive presentation of her work to date. Tal’s practice draws on the built environment of the city that forms the backdrop to her everyday life, as well as how that environment is continuously branded and reproduced. Interested in how the language of advertising is reflected in us, she explores commercial image production strategies from product display setups to real estate and architectural photography. By adopting and skewing this visual language, particularly in how it evokes feelings like awe, she redirects attention from the object staged to the ideology shaping this sort of gaze and its role in seemingly endless processes of commodification. For her presentation at Kunsthalle Basel, she is developing a new series of large-scale photographic works on acrylic.
