GJÖRNINGAKLÚBBURINN-ICELANDIC LOVE CORPORATION
"Svartir Svanir - Black Swans"

17. 10. 2009 - 15. 11. 2009

Opens 17th of October 2009 at 5 pm.

The Icelandic Love Corporation: Eirún Sigurðardóttir , Jóní Jónsdóttir og Sigrún Hrólfsdóttir.

A black swan is a metaphor for events that are unexpected. These events are high-impact, hard-to-predict, and rare. Afterwards it seems that they could perhaps have been predicted. It is a question of reading into the signs around us, such as when the house cat licks itself and kicks its hind leg into the air. Then you can expect a visitor.
In Tasmania people do not find black swans particularly special, but it is from there that the black one originates. In the northern hemisphere they are, on the other hand, extremely rare and are even considered unwanted guests in some places.
In this exhibition, The Icelandic Love Corporation presents new sculptures and an animated film. These works have been shown in the southern and northern hemispheres of the globe, but appear now in Reykjavik for the first time. A part of them was created last winter in Montreal, where the ILC enjoyed the hospitality of Canadians at a residency in The Darling Foundry.
In the animated film we meet a swan which un-wantedly becomes an uninvited guest. The film is an adventure, a scenario sprung from the collective consciousness of the Corporation members, created with methods that evoke memories of a long lost children's hour.
The three dimensional pieces form together two scenes or installations which share the ability to accommodate the next scene, an unexpected guest or even a scene-stealer.
All these artworks stem from performance, even though we meet no living bodies here... except for the audience body.
