Winter Ausstellung – Kış Sergisi

Three years have past since my (many) travels between Istanbul and Kassel in preparation of Raum der Rhythmen for dOCUMENTA(13). Since then its initial idea – its “soul” – as well as some of its rhythms and objects have traveled to many places, transforming on their journey.
Being invited by the Kasseler Kunstverein gives me the opportunity to come back and develop a new presentation that will both (1.) be an extension(continuation) of Raum der Rhythmen and (2.) spark new ideas// and hopefully rekindle friendships.
The title Winter Ausstellung came to me as soon as I was invited. Together with friends we will experiment with a new piece of work inspired by a past journey to Germany where I encountered a fireplace video in a Hotel room and lobby. It was winter and the video made me remember being around fire, listening to and watching it with others. In Istanbul the opportunity for this has become rare.
Our initial idea was to have an open fire in the Kasseler Kunstverein, spend time around it and broadcasting it via the Internet to anywhere, especially to friends in various places in Turkey, where most of them still are.
German fire regulations disallow open fires in museums, so we decided to revert to the original idea: to make a fireplace video playing in the Kasseler Kunstverein and online. Furthermore the expenditure of wood of a regular household in Kassel during the time of the exhibition will be measured and visualized in an installation. Finally sofas and a table will be installed. The rest will take shape during the installation period and exhibition accompanied by discussions, sounds and performances.
In addition I will bring along existing work: a new presentation of Day (2012), Ruler Day Night, Ruler Centenary (a sister of the Documenta Ruler) and more. I will bring along a small frame drum as well.
