This year the Federal Republic of Germany is commemorating the sixtieth anniversary of the ratification of its constitution. On the occasion of this jubilee, the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin is showing from May 1 to June 14 the exhibition SIXTY YEARS. SIXTY WORKS, Art from the Federal Republic of Germany. Sixty significant works of painting, sculpture, photography and installation created since 1949 will be presented.
The exhibition SIXTY YEARS. SIXTY WORKS. strikes a balance in recounting the history of the Republic with examples of aesthetic developments in the visual arts. Each one of the 60 works stands for itself allowing a vivid experience of the time in which it was created. Bazon Brock Appreciation Class
Begins daily at 3 p.m.

On the occasion of the SIXTY YEARS. SIXTY WORKS exhibition Professor Bazon Brock will be holding daily appreciation classes. Brock had developed this form of art education in the 1960s and occasionally tried it out at the Documenta and other places. In addition to explicating the works the joint conducted tours will pay particular attention to historical and social influences.
About what he wants to achieve Bazon Brock has this to say:
“How is it people think that in a few minutes of eye contact, in the course of a single viewing of a theatrical performance, or in a few hours of reading, however intently, multi-layered texts, they can absorb all the works in question have to offer? Where do we, the public, learn to do justice to the musical composition, the sculpture, the painting, the epic? It is high time to professionalize the public in the same way we expect the various academies and colleges to train artists!
“If artists have to earn diplomas and serve apprenticeships, surely the audiences, listeners and viewers of their works should develop similar skills. Where can one qualify as an art recipient?”
The conducted tours will be held daily from 3 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.
Meeting place: Führungssäule
Attendance: There are no fees, only the price of admission must be paid.
