ALESSANDRO PESSOLI
Il mio cuore sulla spiaggia
4 June - 3 July 2015

ZERO... is pleased to present Il mio cuore sulla spiaggia.

For his first solo exhibition at the gallery, Alessandro Pessoli presents a series of new paintings, which reinterpret some traditional genres of painting with a personal, intimate and almost emotional approach.

After a long period of exhibitions dominated by a large presence of three-dimensional works, especially ceramics, for this exhibition Pessoli worked on a classical scheme of the history of painting, which places the subject at the center of the painting - portraits, still lives, marine with fish, boats.

Thanks to a process of continuous stratification, revision and cancellation, the artist freely combines different techniques, from expressionistic brushworks to screen printing, to the use of the roller, the stencil, spray paint and airbrush. At the same time the style goes from phases of free disregard of the technique, to moments of refined combinations of materials and styles.

His face as well as images of fish are supported, inserted into stylized and geometric forms, circles, pyramids, cones, subjects that are emptied and recombined. The full and bright colors create reflections, bands of color and rainbows.

The works reveal an omnivorous attitude and an instinctive, immediate style, characterized by a very rich visual vocabulary, with references ranging from art history, to the atmospheres of European pop, to the world of cartoons. The almost grotesque approach with which the subjects are treated, also suggests a reference to those paintings that are usually found in certain public places, such as taverns.

The artist does not hide a feeling of tenderness towards this minor genre, a distant echo of the noble origin of painting, whose almost mechanical repetition and typically decorative function are suggested in the works on display.

Under the colored surfaces, a subtle melancholy unveils, which becomes the starting point to reflect on the condition of being and artist and the man’s position in the contemporary world.

Alessandro Pessoli was born in Cervia in 1963. He lives and works in Los Angeles.
