CHRISTOPH RUCKHÄBERLE RAIDS TH...

Christoph Ruckhäberle raids the abandoned reservoir of painting–history. Seemingly known subjects as street scenes, portraits, battle scenes and interiors emerge in front of the spectator’s eye, only to fall apart at closer look and betray his expectations.

Although organized and posed in a classical way, the figures and their interactions refuse traditional interpretation. The ensemble gathers to revolt against the painter’s and spectator’s prejudices.

Landscapes, streets, houses and walls become flat theatre backdrops, ready to fall apart. Far from being only painting about painting and it’s iconography, Ruckhäberle’s work gives a very subjective and tragic-comical view on human condition.
