Action film and the Bible. These are the two sources from which the ARoS director, Erlend Høyersten, has drawn inspiration for the exhibition of contemporary art from the museum collection scheduled to open in May. This exhibition will at the same time show the wishes and visions the new director entertains for future visitors to ARoS in their meeting with art.

"The collection is the heart of the museum, and I look forward to giving more space to contemporary art while at the same time presenting it in a new way. It will be an exciting experience,” the director assures us.

EXPERIMENT
There is a tradition in the museum for using chronology as a narrative technique when we exhibit art – it is the date that creates the context. As an experiment the new exhibition will be presented in a way that is inspired by the action film and the Bible.

The idea is, among other things, that art should be able to contribute to creating an understanding of and insight into the structures and systems of our own time. Our visitors must be able to relate to the works in several ways – visually or emotionally, but they must also have the possibility of obtaining more information if they so wish. It is all about creation; the “dialogue” arising between visitor and work when they meet.

MAKE AN EFFORT
“ARoS promises our visitors a most beautiful view at the top of the mountain. But they are not to have everything served on a plate; they must themselves make an effort to reach the top,” says Erlend Høyersten.
